An emergency authorization has been granted for the covid-19 diagnostic test, which uses a new cheap saliva sample processing method.
This test, called salivadirect, has high sensitivity and its results are similar to those of the nasopharyngeal swab test. Under the observation of medical staff, saliva is automatically collected in sterile containers without the use of specific cotton swabs or collection devices.
Researchers at the Yale School of Public Health say the molecular diagnostic test can produce results in three hours and test up to 92 samples at a time. The cost of the test reagent is only a few yuan, and they expect the laboratory to charge only about 10 yuan per sample, the researchers said.
In addition to the price advantage, the biggest advantage of the test is fast.
